What is Sydney Craft Week?

Led by the Australian Design Centre and supported by an advisory group of craft sector professionals, Sydney Craft Week brings together contemporary crafts organisations and individuals in a celebration of craft across the city as part of a ten-day festival each year in October.

When is Sydney Craft Week?

Sydney Craft Week occurs every year in October, and also offers year-long support to all the amazing events and activities that makers generate throughout the year. 2017 was the inaugural year of the event.

Why did Australian Design Centre (ADC) launch Sydney Craft Week?

ADC has been around for more than fifty years. Our foundation is in craft. With such a rich history in craft that threads through our exhibitions, retail activities and publishing, we feel we are well placed to take a lead role. Having said this, Sydney Craft Week is not about us, but about the diverse community of makers in our beautiful city whose hands weave, hammer, throw, bend, twist, fire, decorate, create and problem-solve day in, day out, right across the greater Sydney area.

What is happening in Sydney Craft Week?

The festival is jam-packed with events for everyone, including but not limited to: exhibitions, talks, workshops, retail events, open studios, live demonstrations and digital events.

Where is Sydney Craft Week?

Sydney Craft Week is staged in venues all across Sydney, defined within the following precincts: Sydney City Suburbs; Eastern Suburbs; Inner West; Northern Sydney and Greater Sydney and Beyond, plus digital events.

How do I find out what’s on?

To see Sydney Craft Week 2020 events, head to our online program, or view a pdf of the print guide here. Follow @sydneycraftweek on FacebookInstagram and Twitter for alerts on what’s happening.

Is it free to attend?

Sydney Craft Week invites all residents and visitors to experience Sydney’s vibrant craft scene. Most events are free to enter, with ticketed events managed by host organisations and venues. Check listing and details for each event online before you head out.

What about COVID-19?

With festivals and major events having to cancel across the city and the wider world, we have thought deeply about going ahead with Sydney Craft Week this year.  Sydney Craft Week is a little different in that it is a city-wide festival of smaller events and exhibitions. All of the festival participants have COVID-safe plans in place and will be implementing these plans for their events. Please don’t attend if you are unwell or awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test.  We encourage you to follow guidelines at each festival venue including venue capacity limits and consider wearing a face mask – maybe your best handmade mask! This year's festival also has a range of digital events for you to enjoy wherever you are.

How else can I be involved with or support Sydney Craft Week?

Besides hosting an event, you can get involved with Sydney Craft Week in many different ways. You may consider:
- Taking an ad out in the Sydney Craft Week print program. You can pay for a half, full or double page spread in the guide. The deadline for this is each June.
- Donating supplies or services (we are always on the lookout for give-aways as door prizes or workshop supplies, for example).
- Sharing our news and events via your mailing lists and social media (we can provide you with a media pack).
- Distributing Sydney Craft Week guides to participants and venues or stocking them in your shop/ cafe/ business.
- Volunteering for Sydney Craft Week.
